Congratulations to Abigail Mejia, an undergraduate in the BEST Lab, who received both the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize and Gordon W. Allport Prize for her senior honors thesis entitled “Perceived Socioeconomic Status-based Discrimination and Mental Health Among a Population-based Sample of Swedish Young Adults.”

The Hoopes Prize is conferred in recognition of outstanding scholarly research and includes an award of $5,000. Abigail was one of 73 seniors from across Harvard College to receive this year's prize, which is funded by the estate of Thomas T. Hoopes, Class of 1919, for the purpose of “promoting, improving, and enhancing the quality of education.”

The Allport Prize is awarded by the Department of Psychology for honors theses of exceptionally high quality in scholarly areas to which the late Gordon W. Allport, Class of 1919 and Faculty from 1930-1967, was dedicated, including the study of prejudice and discrimination.

Abigail's thesis was supervised by Professor Mark Hatzenbuehler and co-supervised by BEST Lab graduate student Nathan Hollinsaid.
